Thank you so much for participating in our Orphan Care Challenge. During this challenge were were able to raise approximately $42,500 for orphans and widows!
We are now working to see where and how we can best put this money to use. Check back soon to see where and how your money is helping to care for both physical and spiritual needs of orphans and widows around the world!
THE CHALLENGE
The orphan care challenge is a 10 week challenge for both individuals of the church as well as the church as a whole. For the next 10 weeks, we are challenged to look at all of our expenses as individuals and as families through the lens of specific need in the world, specifically the needs of orphans and vulnerable children.
The challenge is to free up as much of your financial resources as possible for the sake of the glory of Christ in His church, among the lost, and among the poor. This can be done in multiple ways, but we are focusing on 2 potential ideas to accomplish this.
1. SET A CAP ON YOUR SPENDING
Look at your typical spending patterns over a week and/or month. Then set a cap well below that typical spending amount. Strive to cut out anything that is not necessary over the next 10 weeks. Continue to lower that cap as much as possible throughout the challenge. Take all the money you accrue above that cap over the 10 weeks and save it. At the end of the 10 week challenge, or at any time throughout the challenge you see a need you can meet, give that money away to help care for orphans and vulnerable children.
2. IDENTIFY WANTS AND NEEDS
Over the next 10 weeks, every time you spend money, whether it be online shopping or a monthly bill, ask yourself "Is this a want or a need?" If the thing in question is a want, forego that purchase for the duration of the challenge. If the thing in question is a need, ask yourself "Can i forego this need for the next 10 weeks?" If you feel you can forego the need for the remainder of the challenge, hold off on purchasing that need. During this time, take all money that would have been spent on the wants and needs you have decided to forego, and save it. At the end of the 10 week challenge, or at any time throughout the challenge you see a need you can meet, give that money away to help care for orphans and vulnerable children.
THE GOAL
The goal of this challenge is simple: Work to set a cap on your lifestyle so that you can free up as much of your resources as possible for the sake of the glory of Christ in His church, among the lost, and among the poor and fulfill. As James states in James 1:27,
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:
to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep
oneself from being polluted by the world."
We long to practice true religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless! Please consider joining in our orphan care challenge to care for vulnerable children in our neighborhoods and around the world.
We have listed several groups and organizations under the Resources section on this page that care for orphans and vulnerable children while simultaneously sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. We encourage you to check them out and prayerfully consider giving to one of those organizations.
As a reminder, if you find it easier to simply give to Grace Community Church, 100% of the offerings the church receives over this 10 week challenge will be donated to organizations that care for orphans and vulnerable children. Thank you for considering this challenge, and as Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians, we are blessed to be a blessing:
“You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every
way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”
2 Corinthians 9:11
